A great deal of the emotional tension and worry we endure is based on shame or guilt from events in the past, or projections of fear about what may happen in the future. By focusing on the present moment – right here and now – it reduces the time we spend attaching thoughts and emotions to the past (which we can’t change) and the future (which we can’t predict).
