Eating Disorders

Our approach to eating disorders and body issues is to focus on the root cause of a condition, not food. Traditional methods tend to focus heavily on calorie intake, not on unravelling the emotional stress behind the disorder. Over the last decade at Palladium Private we have developed a holistic solution to eating disorders and body issues. This unique holistic solution educates a sufferer on the cause of chronic stress and why they have a distorted view of their self-worth. There are three main components to our eating disorder programs, which are listed below, the components are combined with a highly nutritious diet, gentle exercise and relaxation therapy to help the body and mind heal.

  • Psychological

Our qualified therapists apply educational techniques that examine the way a person suffering a stress based illness, such as an eating disorder, is thinking and processing the events of their life. This is based on their core belief structures, which predominantly develop at an early age, and how the processing of reality through these core belief structures causes unwanted emotional symptoms and behaviors. We unpick where a person learnt their views on life as well as how they incorrectly measure their self-worth. The information learnt in this process takes the sufferer’s incorrect or incomplete beliefs, which are based on misinterpretations of the past, and re-educates them to look at the same past experiences objectively and with the goal to understand, learn and grow from the experiences. This changes the underlying cause of the person’s unwanted emotions and behavior for the long term.

  • Mindfulness Training

Mindfulness is the development and practice of awareness of ones thinking within the present-moment without the need to negatively judge (Shapiro 2009). The Mindfulness process, often referred to as a perceptual shift, helps one recognise thoughts and feelings as just events occurring in the broader field of one’s awareness.

Even though the practice of mindfulness can be traced back over thousands of years, Harvard Medical school Boston MA 2010 states in their findings it has specifically been the last three decades that research has generated considerable evidence supporting its efficacy across a wide range of health care settings, to reduce symptoms in a number of disorders, including anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, and chronic pain, as well as improving well-being and quality of life.

  • Bio-Psycho-Social

At Palladium Private we teach the significance of the mind-body connection and how nutrition and physical activity plays a part towards your recovery and in your new life.  People suffering from an eating disorder have a distorted view of the body, exercise and food created by the mind.  Social connection plays a large part in the integration of the client back into a healthy lifestyle and mindset which sets them up for the second part of their program when they return home.
